Watch(ing)

This is an ongoing project and will be updated periodically with current and past shows/movies watched. Since I tend to sometimes include more than one show/movie in a review, I will note review next to the show/movie in question. Includes 2021 Watch List, Love/Hate Playlist (scroll down), and Reviews. The closest thing I have to a watchlist is on imdb.com, which is woefully incomplete but still more expansive than what I remembered. DNF is Did Not Finish which doesn’t necessarily mean I thought it was bad or unwatchable.

All Things TV: Review—Tequila Sunrise

This meview has spoilers.  Before we knew him as problematic, and that is the mildest label considering, Mel Gibson was Dale ‘Mac’ McKussic, a former bourgeois drug dealer living in a beach house with his son in Southern Cali (Huntington Beach?) trying desperately to retire and go legit—and remain that…

All Things TV: Bridgerton Season 2 Review

Dearest lovelies, I’ve never loved being more wrong about something. I should’ve never doubted Chris and Shonda and team but trusted in their artistic and philosophical visions.  Did I like Bridgerton Season Two? I watched it two times within the 24 hours it debuted—what do you think?  First of all,…

Pandemic Diary—Shame (update)

ADDENDUM—Here (below) is my short review of Bridgerton Season two (longer review here): The Ezra Klein podcast has several great shows on Ukraine, Russia, and Putin that are a wealth of information—Fareed Zakaria, Fiona Hill, Masha Gessen, Timothy Snyder, Emma Ashford, and the latest one is Daniel Yergen, which I…

Bridgerton S2 Thoughts (update)

ADDENDUM—Here (below) is my short season two review (longer review here): Since this became such a large thread, I unrolled it. The original thread is here. Apologies for the typos. I am mad disappointed. Addendum: I wrote more on it here. Here is the season one review. 🙄 I’ll hold…

All Things TV: 2021 Watch(ing)

I have a confession—I don’t go to movies anymore and I don’t watch as much new television as I used to, especially in this pandemic and most especially when I’m trying to write. Reading has been more my go-to leisure activity to thwart the so-called pandemic malaise. This is everything…

All Things TV: Review – NCIS

In memory of the 20th anniversary of 9/11, I spent the last month bingeing 18 seasons of notable powerhouse and the breadwinner of CBS’ ratings for the better part of the past two decades, NCIS. It is American law enforcement and militaristic propaganda at its mediocre best, and what bell…

Book-TV Tie-In Review: The Last Kingdom by Bernard Cornwell

The Last Kingdom by Bernard Cornwell Oof. My eyes glazed over at about 75% in and I had to speed read through the rest. There’s only so much ancient battle campaigns and strategies, shield walls, brutality, piety, Destiny is all and great Alfred and Britain one can take before I…

All Things TV: Review – Bridgerton (Updated)

Dearest reader, Many, many, many moons ago, when Amazon Prime Video was in its wee beginnings (if felt like the beta stages), I was that customer that pestered them repeatedly on how my BSG or various movie videos weren’t downloading/streaming properly. We exchanged many emails—or, rather, I emailed them and…

All Things TV: Review – Deja Vu

Deja Vu is a 2006 science fiction time travel movie, presently on Amazon Prime, directed by Tony Scott, written by Bill Marsilii and Terry Rossio, starring Denzel Washington, Paula Patton, Jim Caviezel, and Val Kilmer. Warning: Spoilers. Besides the pure entertainment value and joy of watching the chemistry between Denzel…

All Things TV: Review – Supernatural (Updated)

I’m still so disgusted the morning after, I’m wondering if I should wait in case I write something I may later regret because of the promise I made to be fair and empathetic to the creators and writers I review on here. So be it. Warning: Spoilers ahead. Let me…

All Things TV: Review – Rebecca

On Saturday I watched the Hitchcock adaption of Rebecca (here’s my book review) on YouTube then watched the Wheatley version on Netflix. If you like the story, I would recommend both adaptations simply because. Warning: Spoilers ahead. I rarely do movies older than the 1970s. When I lived in Raleigh,…

Review: Movie — The Wandering Earth

Movie: The Wandering Earth – A brilliant, expressive, visual fest replete with all kind of odes to American science fiction. I was dubious of the science and went in search of the critiques—two stood out: What Western Media Got Wrong About China’s Blockbuster ‘The Wandering Earth’ and Liu Cixin’s The…

Review: Movie — Hereditary

Movie: Hereditary – Terrifying and outstanding in all its complexities. The narrative brilliantly interweaves the dark complexities of psychological character elements and transforms them into actual heightened nightmarish fears and a metaphorical horror story that peels paint off your walls. Ari Aster is someone I plan to put on my ‘must watch all’…
